From the Imagination of Our Ancestors welcomes you to take this journey with us. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve Black people in the Charlottesville and Albemarle communities. We look forward to joining the village of people imagining and working toward a more JUST community. In 2017, our Executive Director campaigned for Charlottesville City Council with the slogan "Unmasking the Illusion," and later that year, Charlottesville and Albemarle’s centuries-old caste system was exposed globally.

 

From the Imagination of Our Ancestors is built on a foundation of advocacy dedicated to eradicating conditions and power groups intent on keeping Black faces at the bottom of the well. We will battle for the liberation of Black people at every level, in every space, individually, and at a macro level. We created this organization to be a tsunami for Black justice. We will love on Black people and create floods of joy for us while simultaneously fighting modern-day versions of the same structural racism our ancestors fought when they were alive. Our prayer is for our kids to live in a state of boundless joy instead of having to armor themselves for the same battles for which our ancestors fought and prepared us for.
